A quick look in photos at the life of a monarch butterfly:

Eggs on a leaf.  There’s safety in numbers!

 

After hatching a caterpillar’s life is spent eating…

 

Hanging out with friends eating…

 

And more eating!

 

After about two weeks, the journey begins…

 

To find a suitable spot…

 

To hang…

 

And transform into a chrysalis.

 

Any spot will do 🙂

 

Not much changes until day 7, then things turn dark…

 

 

Day 8 wings appear…

 

 

Day 9 the butterfly emerges triumphant!

 

 

Danger always lurks...

 

But freedom is near…

 

Feels good to stretch one’s wings…

 

Almost there…

 

Made it!

 

A little rest then a drink of nectar before the long flight to Mexico.

 

All that is left of one of nature’s most wondrous transformations.
