Welcome to a late summer heat wave here in Southern Ontario! Starting to feel a bit like my days in Dubai. I managed to snap a photo of an all too rare sight this year, a monarch butterfly on my tall purple aster. This is only the second I saw this summer. Remember to plant nectar bearing late summer and fall flowers for the butterflies to fuel up on before their long migration to Mexico. Asters, cone flowers and sedums are all good choices. Also plant asclepsia or milkweed in your garden for the monarch larva and if you have any native milkweed on your property, don’t pull them out please.

Can you send the monarchs to South Florida instead of Mexico, it is a lot closer for them 🙂
