As I reflect on the past New Year’s eves and where I have been: Canada, South America, Europe and Dubai; I thought I would share with you the gardens I’ve seen around this time. Some are in the dead of winter and others in the height of summer.
Chile
My garden at the time and others in Santiago are in their full glory at this time of the year
Our “Christmas” tree in December
Another shrub “dressed” for the season 🙂
May not look like a northern Christmas but who would complain with this riot of colour!
And the roses…sigh
The Japanese garden in Santiago and
the lush surroundings at the geothermal springs in Pucon
Brazil
The Christmas theme continues
Amazonian trees in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janiero
The Japanese garden in the Botanical Garden
Fanciful ruins!
What we normally see inside our homes!
Beautiful lotus bloom
Austria
Mirabell Palace in Salzburg at Christmas
Beautiful even in December
Dubai
Dubai has a harsh climate with temperatures reaching over 50deg celsius in the summer but the winter is a great time to get outside and visit some of the lovely islamic style gardens
Garden at Bab al Shams
Lovely mosaic tile floor in a gazebo
Classic water feature in the gorgeous garden setting of Qasr al Sarab
Interior courtyard setting at Qasr al Sarab
Canals in a hotel garden in Abu Dhabi
Water and shade trees are important elements in a hot climate garden
A modern take on mosaics
Canada
Of course in my homeland we can get a bit of everything…
From ice storms…
to snow…
to no snow…
to yucky rain
In order to escape, a visit to the Allan Gardens in downtown Toronto, Ontario Canada was in order
For a bit of Christmas cheer…
I wish everyone a Happy New Year and Happy Gardening for 2019 where ever your garden may be!
